Tension prevailed at Charampa in Bhadrak after a violent clash broke out between two groups of transgenders on Saturday night.
As many as 10 persons sustained injuries in the clash.
The clash occurred over sharing of extortion money from a toll gate. Of the 10 injured, the condition of four was stated to be critical and they were shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
The clash took place when a group of transgender reportedly attacked the rival group while they were having a meeting at a hotel.
The attackers reportedly abducted a few members of the other group and ransacked the hotel. Later, a complaint in this connection was lodged at the Town police station.
“Why are the police yet to take any action even after a complaint has been lodged? Why is the administration silent? We demand justice for us. If required, we will meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and knock at the doors of the Supreme Court,” said a member of the group which was targeted.
“Around 40 to 50 transgenders barged into the hotel and went on a rampage,” alleged hotel owner Basant Kumar Ojha.
Police conducted a flag march in the area to bring the volatile situation under control.
