At least 10 goats died and several others fell ill after consuming rotten rice while they were brought out for grazing in Mohana block in Gajapati district.
The rice had been thrown outside the premises of the MKCG Blind and Deaf School at Mohana, where cooked food were arranged for people who had come from various villages to attend a meeting during the visit of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday last. The person in-charge threw the leftover rice outside on Sunday. The goats on their way to a grazing ground in jungle at Kanteikoli village consumed the waste rice following which 10 of them died on the spot. Some employees of the Mohana Veterinary Hospital reached the spot and started treating the animals. locals have demanded compensation to the owners of the goats which died in the incident.
