Ten Coal India unions have decided to go on strike on September 2 seeking implementation of their 12-point charter of demands.

Trade union leaders gave a call for a national strike at a Press conference held here on Thursday. Representing a delegation of trade unions leaders, Hind Mazdoor Sangh (HMS) national vice-president Rajendra Prasad Singh said, “The Narendra Modi Government like its predecessor has continued to ignore the demands of the Coal India trade unions.”

The UPA Government led by Dr Manmohan Singh had agreed in principle to the 12 demands but failed to implement them.

He said that since 2011, all trade unions decided to collaborate and put their case forward. However, the Bhartiya Majdoor Sangh (BMS) has decided to withdraw from the alliance saying that the Government had taken them into confidence and promised a quick resolution of the longstanding issues. The strike would be supported by all the trade unions except the BMS.

lift Irrigation Corporation Chairman Anup Kumar Sai and many leaders of HMS were present at the meet.
