In order to keep strict vigil on movement and activities of antisocial elements, the Commissionerate Police would instal CCTV cameras in 10 major market complexes in the city. The market complexes of the city such as Unit-2 Market, Ashok Nagar Market, Bapuji Nagar Market, Ruchika Market in Baramunda, Indradhanu Market in Nayapalli, Priyadarshini Market in CRP Square, Rabi Talkies Square Market, the market from Janpath cemetery to Master Canteen, Shahid Nagar Market and Cuttack-Puri road market would be covered under the project.

Sources said the new project would be implemented on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. After installation, the cameras would be connected to the police control room via a leased line. The Commissionerate Police would provide the monitoring support and send PCR vans as and when required, it added.

Following repeated incidents of loot, theft and dacoity in the market complexes which have housed jewellery shops, electronics and other high value materials showrooms, the police had earlier advised business establishments to use front facing high resolution cameras that can focus on objects up to 100 metres away. The Commissionerate Police would hold a meeting with the Market Complex Association on February 24 to discuss about security of market complexes and listen to the suggestions from the association.

The police also plan to set up 14 CCTV cameras at the gates of the State Assembly and the Secretariat. While four of these would be Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras, the rest would be fixed ones. It also planned to set up CCTV cameras in front of the Raj Bhavan and the office of the Commissioner of Police to enhance the security.
