10 boys rescued from B'pur railway station

Ten minor boys were rescued from the railway station here on Sunday while they were being trafficked to places outside the State. Members of organisation Souch rescued five boys, who were being taken to Surat via the Puri-Okha Express train. They also rescued the rest five boys, who were being trafficked to Chennai. They later handed over the kids to the Child Welfare Committee.

With this, total 39 children, including girls, have been rescued from the railway station by Child line and various voluntary organisations during the last seven days. FIRs have been registered with the GRP police in this regard.

It is alleged that, though the rescued children are rehabilitated and sent back to their homes under the direct guidance of the District Child Protection Officer and Child Welfare Committee, the number child trafficking to outside States is increasing by the day, said a local, adding “No step has been taken for permanent solution of the trafficking problem.”

On the pretext of providing jobs, the middlemen are taking children to places like Chennai, Hyderabad and Surat and engaging them in various plants as labourers.
