Police have arrested 10 persons in connection with Monday’s firing incident in Baleswar town in which a youth, Binay Kumar Bihari, was critically injured.

The arrested were identified as Manoranjan Bindhani (25), Sandip Rout (19), Deepak Behera (22), Gopal Singh (23), Ranjan Kumar Sahu (29), Susanta Das (24), Sanjb Dehury (24), Ranjan Das (24), Kanhu Nayak (38) and Baikunta Bagal (33).

All accused are residents of Sahadevkhunta , Industrial, Khantapara and Town police station areas.

Binay Kumar was shot at by Manoranjan Bindhani. He suffered bullet injuries in his left shoulder and was initially admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital and then shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack when his condition deteriorated.

Baleswar SP Sagarika Nath said the root cause behind the incident was internal gang rivalry between Manoranjan Bindhani and Binay Bihari. Both of them wanted to register their supremacy in the gang. There was a heated argument between Bindhani and Bihari over sharing of the spoils following which the former opened fire at Bihari.

Some sharp weapons and a country-made pistol were seized from the possession of the 10 persons arrested. They are booked under IPC and Arms Act, said Nath.
