One person was killed and a woman injured in a firing incident during an immersion procession of Vishwakarma idol at Natugaon village under the Itamati police station in Nayagarh district on Saturday night, the police said.
“One body has been recovered from the spot and the injured woman has been shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack,” said Nayagarh SP Abhimanyu Nayak. The deceased was identified as lachhman Parida (56). Parida was a Congress supporter and local party leaders accused the ruling BJD to be behind the killing.
The police are investigating into the incident and have started manhunt to nab the culprit.
