Major parts in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur districts experienced the impact of the earthquake on Wednesday night. It developed cracks in a few buildings.
Puspalata Behera (27) of Rampa village under Bari block in Jajpur district sustained serious head injuries when she jumped from the roof of her building. She is now undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Though it was a low-intensity earthquake, it spread dread among the denizens of the Steel City on Wednesday night. The tremors were felt at about 9.50 pm.
The houses shook, utensils fell down and people fell down from chairs as the tremors continued for a few seconds. Panic-stricken people streamed out of their houses and stayed put on the streets apprehending return of the quake. No casualty was reported. The quake also hit Sundargarh, Hemgiri, Rajgangpur, Bargaon, Bonai, lahunipara, Koira, Kuarmunda, Biramitrapur, Nuagaon, lathikata and Bisra areas.
Balangir town was in the grip of panic as buildings began to shake under the impact of the earthquake on Wednesday.The residents of the Post, Telegraph and BSNl colonies came out of their houses when the shaking started and continued for five to six seconds.
