As many as 1,797 persons have died due to lightning during the last three years and four months since 2014-15 till date across the State.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Maheshwar Mohanty informed this in the State Assembly in response to a question of Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati. Out of 1,797 persons died in lightning, 43 were from Koraput district, the Minister said.
The Minister stated that the family of a person dying in lightning was being given compensation of `1.5 lakh before April 1, 2015 and the family of a person dying in lightning is being compensation of Rs 4 lakh since April 1, 2015.
