The Sahadevkhunta police in Baleswar district on Tuesday seized around 1.6 kg of brown sugar worth over Rs 1.5 crore and arrested four persons in this connection.
Acting on a tipoff about the illegal trading of the drug, the police raided a place at Pacha Chhak on the outskirts of Baleswar town and arrested Sheikh Maksad (35), Sheikh Raju (30), Sheikh Abusen (28) and Sheikh Jamshed Ali (53) for their alleged involvement in the drugs trade.
Besides, a car was seized from their possession, police sources said, adding that the four were carrying out the illegal activity on the pretext of fish trading.
