Rajya Sabha MP Amar Patnaik called on Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman and demanded that the GST of 18% in the health insurance policy for senior citizens within the age group of 60 to 75 years be waived, taking into consideration their financial burden into account.
The waiver will enable them to go for higher amount of insurance policy for their advancing old age, he said.
Patnaik demanded for total waiver of GST by the GST Council of India or reduction of the GST by a minimum of 5% so that it will help a large chunk of the senior citizens to take care of their health hazards.
Patnaik had also called on the Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and demanded for a separate Railway Division in Rourkela for the people of Sundargarh.
Patnaik had discussed the progress of other railway projects in Odisha with the Railway Minister and had sought his cooperation in accelerating the pace of progress in the ongoing projects
