'Locals not given jobs; industries flouting MoUs'

The Youth for Action (YfA), Odisha, fighting for the interest of the youth mass of the State on Friday gathered in front of the office of the RDC (ND) pressing for various demands, including  employment for the local youths in industries and Government offices.

Hundreds of youths from 10 revenue districts of the Northern Division gathered and submitted a memorandum for Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through the RDC.

They mentioned that the Naveen Patnaik Government, during the last 20 years, has signed more than 200 MoUs with different industries where it is mandatory to give 90 per cent local employments in unskilled and semi skilled categories, 60 percent in skilled category, 30 percent in supervising and managerial level. “But practically, less than 10 percent local people have got employment in all categories in the industries,” slammed the YfA.

It further pointed out that the CM’s declaration in 2018 for investment of Rs 4,19,574 crore to generate 5,91,000 jobs is nothing but a day-dream for the aspirants as it is yet to be reflected on the ground. They also mentioned about the Dadan Shramik and their miserable situation in the workplaces.

Debashis Nayak, Sujit Singh, Manas Rath and many others of YfA demanded that the State Government publish a white paper on the actual number of migrant labourers from Odisha.

“If the industries fail to abide by the terms and conditions of the MoU, then the Consent of Operate (CoP) orders should be cancelled immediately so that they will be bound to obey it,” they said.
