Application for admission into Plus II courses in higher secondary schools would begin by August 16, informed School & Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash on Saturday.

“The application process for admission into different streams of +2 courses had started on August 21 last year. This year, the School & Mass Education Department has decided to start the admission process a week before the previous year’s schedule. We will provide one-month time to candidates for application,” Dash told reporters.

As the evaluation of offline matric examination-2021 is scheduled from August 12, the students who had appeared in the test would be given opportunity for admission into Plus II courses this academic session, he stated.

In view of students’ pass percentage in Class-X results this year, the department has requested to the Government recommending to increase seats by more than 55,000 in Plus II colleges, he said.

“As a laboratory for students in Science stream is much important, we are reviewing the infrastructure in colleges. In this regard, a meeting was convened with the department’s Principal Secretary on Friday. The infrastructure review of self-financing colleges is underway to determine how much the institutions can provide laboratory facilities to students. The data on the number of seats increased before the application will be available on the official website of SAMS Odisha,” the Minister said and assured that the students would not face any inconveniences for seats.

On reopening of schools for Class-IX students, Dash said the Covid guidelines/SOP that had been issued for Classes-X and XII would be applicable to Class-IX for conducting physical classes.

The schools for students of Class-IX are scheduled to reopen from August 16 after four months of lockdown in the State.
