‘Submit proposal for HC Benches by Jun 30’

The Central Action Committee (CAC) of the Bar Associations of Western Odisha that met in the Sambalpur court premises on Saturday came down heavily on the attitude of the High Court Bar Association in Cuttack on the matter of HC permanent Benches in western and southern Odisha.

“The attitude of the High Court Bar Association is highly condemnable. They need to change their mindset since justice at doorstep is the very objective of the government and the judiciary system as a whole,” said CAC convenor Ashok Dash in a media conference after the CAC general body meeting.

Out of the five resolutions adopted in the meeting, the most important was an ultimatum to the State Government to submit a concrete proposal before the Centre with specific mention of the place of HC Bench and its jurisdiction before June 30, informed Sambalpur District Bar Association president Sureswar Mishra. Otherwise, the CAC would observe a ‘Sankalpa Diwas’ on July 8 before the offices of all Collectors and RDC, Sambalpur. On that day, the CAC would chalk out the future course of action, Mishra added.

The CAC further decided to meet the Chief Minister and the High Court Chief Justice to apprise them of the necessity of submitting full-fledged proposals to the Centre for establishment of HC Benches.

“The State Government should not bow down before a handful of advocates of Cuttack,” the CAC said.

The CAC further demanded conversion of the LR Law College here to a university and also to bring Boudh district under RDC (ND) in view of its location and language.
