Amidst the scare of a fourth Covid-19 wave, State Health Services Director Bijay Mohapatra on Thursday cautioned that the infection may surge by “next three to four weeks”.

He, however, said the State Government is fully-prepared for the possible wave as it has adopted all kinds of combative measures, including mass vaccination, to tackle spread of the virus.

“In view of the rising cases in a few other States amid fears of a fourth wave, we have kept all health infrastructures ready to tackle any eventuality in coming days. We have sufficient beds, medical oxygen and medicines. All hospitals will immediately be opened if the infection rises. Collectors have been directed to keep a close watch on the situation in their districts,” Mohapatra said.

He added that currently, the situation in the State is stable. While the daily tally hovers between 10 and 20, the positivity rate has remained low for the last 15 days. Moreover, there is zero hospitalisation. People should strictly follow all Covid guidelines, including mask-wearing, to prevent spread of the virus.
