The BJP on Saturday blamed the State Government for reported death of 17 persons in floods in Gajapati district and termed the tragedy as “Government-sponsored’.
“While the IMD had predicted heavy rains, valuable lives were lost due to negligence of the State Government. In view of negligence, the deaths can’t be said to have occurred due to natural calamities, rather they can be termed as Government-sponsored killing,” said BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra.
He said the Cyclone Titli has disposed the real face of the State Government, which always claims to have worked for welfare of people.
He demanded that Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi should be dismissed from job for failing to discharge duty properly giving irresponsible statement on deaths of people. He too slammed the Chief Secretary for his alleged remark that the administration didn’t expect such a catastrophe to happen.
