The OBC Cell of Kalahandi on Sunday threatened to take to streets if the Government does not reconsider its decision on abolishing reservation for the other backward community (OBC) students in medical colleges of the State who appear through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The members of OBC in a meeting held at Kesinga said the Central Government had dashed the hope of thousands of students by abolishing the reservations.
OBC Cell convenor Suresh Rao said, “Denial of reservations to OBCs in State medical institutions in all India quota, being administered by the Government of India, violates the very objective of the 93rd Constitutional Amendment and is a barrier to access medical education for deserving OBC candidates.”
He further threatened to agitate if the Government does not reconsider its decision. OBC leader of district Nilamani Sahu also spoke.
