Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday told the State Assembly that the incident of triple murder in Puri district’s Sadanadpur village prima facie appeared an outcome of a longstanding land dispute and that police took prompt action in the case.
He claimed that the law and order situation has largely remained peaceful and his Government is fully committed to protect the life and property of all citizens and ensure maintenance of law and order in the State.
The Chief Minister made a statement in this regard in response to a ruling given by Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro over the Opposition parties’ demand earlier in the day.
“In an unfortunate incident on July 14, 2019, three persons were murdered at Sadanandpur. Acting on an FIR promptly, the Satyabadi police arrested six persons. Vigorous efforts are being made to arrest the other absconding accused persons. Adequate force have been deployed to maintain law and order and to give protection to the victims’ families,” said the Chief Minister.
He said initial investigation has revealed that the victims and the accused persons live in the same locality and distantly related to each other. Prima facie, the incident appears to have taken place due to longstanding land dispute between their families, he noted.
“Police have been taking prompt action in all reported heinous offences, including arrest of accused persons. Special drives are being conducted regularly against criminals indulging in organised crimes,” Patnaikd told the House.
He further informed that the law and order situation in the State has largely remained peaceful. There has been a significant improvement in the Left Wing Extremist scenario. Recently, simultaneous elections were conducted peacefully. During the Cyclone Fani, police have not only successfully maintained law and order but have also assisted in relief and restoration activities.
