Union Petroleum and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday wrote to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik requesting him to provide 15 acres of land at the Barunei foothills early for construction of a memorial on the Paika rebellion as requested by the Union Government.

“To mark the salience of the historic Paika Rebellion, the Union Culture Minister had requested for land measuring about 50 acres on the Barunei Mountains foothills for construction of a memorial on the rebellion. The memorial needs to be the centre of attraction and the source of great inspiration for posterity to remember the great heroes. A unique museum and audio-visual son-et-Numiere show depicting the life and times of Buxi Jagabandhu and Paika Rebellion are proposed to be the attractions of the memorial,” Pradhan mentioned in the letter.

He said the both the Central Government and the Indian Oil Foundation have made adequate provision towards commemoration of the event. Plans to unveil a Paike commemorative stamp and coin are underway, he said. Pradhan suggested him to invite the Prime Minister to do the groundbreaking formalities as the memorial bears importance of the State’s cultural landscape.
