BJP members led by Bhubaneswar district president Babu Singh held a demonstration on Monday alleging poor road condition and choked drains in the capital city. The party activists took out a rally from Jayadev Vihar Square to Mayfair Square here and staged demonstrations by burning tyres on the road.
The agitators holding banners and placards shouted slogans like 'Unsmart Roads in Smart City' and accused the administration of turning a blind eye to it.“Although Bhubaneswar has been claimed as the number one Smart City in the country, the condition of the roads here is pathetic.
People are scared to come out of their houses due to deteriorating road conditions and commuters face misery while travelling. Despite repeated complaints, neither the city administration nor has the State Government taken any remedial action,” alleged Babu Singh.
“Along with that, the management of the drains in the city is very poor which is why sewers get choked with flood water during the rainy season and subsequently lead to outbreak of vector-borne diseases like dengue,” he added. "If the administration does not take the necessary steps to resolve these problems we will intensify our protest in the coming days,” warned the agitators.
