‘Police can't probe Mamita murder impartially'

Civil Society activist,  former State Women Commission Member and president, Mahila Adhikar Abhiyan (MAA) Namrata Chadha has demanded CBI probe into the sensional Kalahandi Sunshine Public School teacher Mamita Meher murder case.

In this regard, her NGO MAA has submitted a memorandum to Governor Dr Ganeshi Lal, seeking that only CBI can investigate the case properly. She said that since Minister for State for Home Captain Dibya Shankar Mishra is alleged to be involved in the case and the State police is under the Home Department, the CBI can only investigate into the case in an impartial manner.

She said the case pertains to sexual exploitation of women in a college in Kalahandi whose founder Govind Sahu has confessed to have murdered Meher in the most heinous way. Sahu is a close aide of Minister Mishra who is alleged to have spent nights many a time in the college.

Not only Mishra but several of his ministerial colleagues and Government officials visited that college and showed undue favour to the institution by way of monetary aid.  She alleged that Meher was killed as she threatened to make public video clips of the sexual exploitation of the students of the college saved in her cell phone and pendrive and laptop.

"The rising trend of crime against women in the State in general and brutal, barbaric and ghastly murder of Mamita Meher in particular has caused grave public concern, anger and anguish. The way Mimita's parents are changing their statements shows they are under intense pressure. So a fair investigation of the case is the need of the hour and only CBI can do it," said Chadha. She sought a direction by the Governor to the CM to hand over the case to the CBI.
