On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day, social organisation Prerana started a yearlong campaign to celebrate freedom fighters and kick off Sahid Smaraki Plantation Mohastav.

Addressing a Press meet, Prerana Green Army commander-in-chief Dr Dillip Srichandan said, "Now the environment is severely polluted. The United Nation Climate Change Committee and the NASA report that the most dangerously risky factor is rising sea level that threaten to submerge 11 cities in the country by nearly three feet water by the century's end. The cities include Mumbai, Kochi and Paradip of Odisha.

Keeping the grave danger in view, Prerna has started its campaign of tree plantation programme in the name of freedom fighters and martyrs to save the environment."

Teachers, students, social workers among others can join the drive and plant either in their houses, schools, colleges, temples or at any public places.

They can name the plant after freedom fighters and martyrs those who are born in their villages and send the photographs and details to Prerna International Green Army to be published in a special souvenir which will be inaugurated on August 15 2022. They will be also felicitated for their association with plantation work, Srichandan added.
