Both factory and mine owners are alleged to be violating the ' No entry' time regulation which prohibits lorries not to move on the roads in a stipulated period of 8 am to 8 pm in order to facilitate common people to reach their destinations. But the violation of the rule is the cause of frequent fatal road accidents.
This was evident on Friday afternoon when one Dilip Naik (25) died being run over by a truck at Rugudi near Barbil town. The deceased, who was working as a contract labourer in the KJS Ahlluwalia plant near Rugudi, was going home for launch.
When the news spread among villagers, they blocked the road till Saturday afternoon in demand of compensation both from the KJS Ahlluwalia, the principal employer, and another mining company from where the lorry had loaded the materials.
However, sources close to KJS Ahhluwalia chief SR Krishnan said, the company agreed to pay Rs 4,05,000 and a job to the next of the deceased’s kin as compensation, after which the roadblock was lifted. The villagers demand that the mining authorities should give permission for movement of a limited number of lorries keeping in view the road conditions.
