BJP Kishan Morcha Odisha Prabhari Rakesh Sharma conducted a meeting with party cadres at Khariar on Friday to discuss about various issues of farmers of the locality and to prepare strategies to address those at political level, keeping an eye on the forthcoming general elections.

At a Press meet, Sharma said, “Our Government has implemented the Swaminathan Committee’s recommendations on fixation of Minimum Support Price (MSP), that the previous Government was unable to do in last 18 years. We have implemented Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana’ (PMKSY) to improve farm productivity and ensure better utilisation of the resources in the country to double the income of farmers in 2022.”

He further said the Center provided the subsidy amount to the Odisha Government for procurement of 10 lakh metric tonne (MT) of seeds in advance, but the State Government could procure only 4 lakh MT, when the farmers here needed more. Odisha is lagging far behind in agriculture development in comparison to the BJP governed States like Chhattisgarh and MP, claimed Sharma.

State Kishan Morcha president Sivaji Mohanty, secretary Samir Patra, district president Sibaprashad Mund, District Kishan Morcha president Sanjay Tiwari, Mahila Morcha president Jemamani Dharua and Mamatanjali Majhi were present.
