‘Nano urea will help sustainable agriculture’

Published on:

Earlier, people depended heavily on chemical fertilisers. But there is a trend of people suffering even minor losses due to crop harvesting without properly realising its usefulness. However, nano urea provides a valuable nutrient solution to the crop for proper growth and development of the crop.

Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, IFFCO and Department of Agriculture jointly organised a workshop on “Usage of Nano Urea” under the chairmanship of OUAT Vice-Chancellor Prof Pravat Kumar Roul on Thursday. Prof Roul said steps would be taken to determine how farmers would use it. Farmers also get the benefit through drones for using nano urea.

Nano DAP liquid is bio-preserved, environment-friendly, said NRRI, Cuttack Director Dr Amaresh Kumar Nayak. The use of nano urea has helped reduce mass urea consumption in the country. Nayak said the size and surface area of nano urea are small; so, it is convenient for spraying leaves.

He said law should be adopted by farmers on how to adopt the new practices from the previous system. For the first time in the world, this fertiliser has been prepared at the IFFCO-Nano Biotechnology Research Centre. It has been proven through trials across India that the use of nano urea reduces the consumption of granular urea by 50%. Therefore, how it can be irrigated on crops without damaging the soil was explained by State Marketing Manager, IFFCO, Odisha SK Chatterjee. Prof Prasanjit Mishra, Dean, Directorate of Extension Education, said the research and marketing of nano urea are going on. Even the correct application of nano DAP can improve crop yield.

Prof Mishra said that by increasing the yield of crops with small investment, the income of farmers can increase.
