BJD members on Tuesday demanded in the State Assembly that the Government name the proposed Odia University, which is under construction at Satyabadi Bakula Bana in Puri district, after Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour BJD MLA from Satyabadi Umakant Samantray said it would be a big tribute to the Utkalmani on his death anniversary today if the proposed University is named after him. He urged Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro to give a direction in this regard.
Another BJD MLA Debi Prasad Mishra too made the same demand.
Notably, the varsity is being constructed at the same place where Panchasakhas had set up Bakula Bana Vidyalaya, the State's first model open school at Sakhigopal in 1909.
