Social media which is spreading fake news is becoming the primary source of receiving information of late and therefore, verification of its content has become indispensable, said Jharsuguda ADM Trilochan Majhi.
He was delivering a speech on a seminar entitled "Reliance on media news affected due to social media" organized by Jharsuguda District Journalists’ Association (JDJA) on Saturday.
The programme began with a prayer ceremony for former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar and victims of Kerala floods.
Dr Nakul Charan Samal was felicitated by Majhi for his contribution to social causes. Among others, Belpahar Municipality Chairman Parsuram Sahoo, TRL Senior officer Dr Tarapada Das, senior journalist Gajendra Mohanty, Santosh Mishra, Amzad Badshah, Subhash Pradhan, Sanjib Patjoshi and Anil Agarwal attended.
