‘Make PMAY beneficiaries’ list afresh’

Published on:

The BJP on Monday demanded that selection of beneficiaries for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) houses be made afresh as there have been massive irregularities in the present list of 12.75 lakh beneficiaries submitted to the Union Government on October 14.

“Following Cyclone Fani, the State Government submitted a list of 3.89 lakh beneficiaries from all 14 affected districts to avail houses from the Union Government. But on October 14, it has submitted a final list of 12.75 lakh beneficiaries. From where the Government brought 9 lakh beneficiaries in three months,” wanted to know BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra.

BJP leader Sarada Pradhan alleged that the selected benefiiciaes include a large number of BJD supporters who are ineligible to get Government houses. Mohapatra said as many as 85 per cent beneficiaries are not entitled.

The two leaders made the allegations at a Press meet here.

“The State Government should make a list of eligible beneficiaries and ensure that no poor family is deprived of a house provided by the Centre. A committee should be formed for a identification of eligible beneficiaries as it has been done for Mahanga and Nischintakoili blocks,” demanded Pradhan.

In his reaction, Housing and Urban Development Minister Pratap Jena said, “The BJP is making false allegations only. They don’t have proof to substantiate their allegations. If any specific issue is raised, we will certainly examine it.”
