BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday advised his party’s first-time MLAs to lead simple life and serve people rising above party considerations to meet promises the party made during the poll campaign.
Narrating his experience as a first-time MLA in 2000, Patnaik, said, “After being elected as an MLA, I convened a meeting of BDOs of my constituency and told them that I am an MLA of all people of my constituency now. You needn’t work in fear or favour. You work for all people, irrespective of their party attachment. I want that you (MLAs) all should work this way,” Patnaik advised the MLAs at a meeting held at Naveen Niwas here.
Taking example of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, the Chief Minister said Bijubabu always worked for people rising above party consideration.
“If you remain away from corruption and work for people, elections will be easy and you will be elected time and again. I am telling this from my experience,” said Patnaik.
He said leaders who focus on elections only get negative results.
“Simplicity is a main aspect of public life as people prefer simple persons. A big gap is created between leaders and people if the former lead an arrogant and luxurious life. You accept my advice as Guru Mantra and work hard to uphold the people’s trust on us,” said the BJD chief.
