The Narendra Modi Government’s Industrial Relation Code and Draft Rules, 2020 is only to curtail the right of workers, alleged INTUC national vice-president Dr Rama Chandra Khuntia on Sunday.
He said the Trade Union Act 1926, the Industrial Employment Standing Order Act 1947 and the Industrial Dispute Act 1947 have been withdrawn. But the new Industrial Relation Code would restrict the of registration of new trade unions and give free hand to employers and the Government to withdraw all protection which was given earlier to workers.Dr Khuntia said the code clearly restrict the workers’ right to stage a strike for asking mandatory provisions. As per the code, civil courts are barred and have no jurisdiction in respect of any matter of the code and no provisions found about Board of conciliation of Court of Inquiry. Establishment employees less than 300 in number need not require approval of Government for lay of, refreshment and lock out.
Draft labour code rule does not speak any think about fix term of employment, seasonal workers and electronic registration in a country like India where 93% works are in unorganised sector may not the possible to follow.Representatives of HMS, AITUC, CITU, AICCTU, SEWA and BMS spoke.
