The Congress on Friday said drug mafia is flourishing in India under political patronage and the 25,000 kg of heroin worth Rs 1,75,000 crore, which has been seized, is a threat to national security.
Addressing a Press conference at the Congress Bhawan here, former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahai along with Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik alleged that the Modi Government has taken a 'contract' to push youths’ future into an abyss of drugs. He said that 3,000 kg of heroin valued at Rs 21,000 crore was caught on September 13 at the Adani Mundra Port in Gujarat, but the real 'drug cartel' has gone missing.
Despite India's and world's largest drug racket having been exposed, Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah remain mum. Sahai questioned where has the 25,000 kg of heroin worth Rs 1,75,000 crore imported on June 9, 2021 through the Mundra Port disappeared? Are the Narcotics Control Bureau, DRI, ED, CBI, IB sleeping or are they too preoccupied in taking revenge on Modi's political adversaries to find time to catch the drug cartel? Is it not a threat to national security, more so when the drugs are allegedly connected to the Taliban in Afghanistan?
He further asked why the Adani Mundra Port has not been investigated. He demanded that the entire matter of drug cartel and political patronage, including the role of foreign suppliers, be investigated by a commission comprising two sitting Supreme Court judges.
