‘Govt has failed to curb BBSR dengue menace’

While the surge in the dengue cases in Bhubaneswar have triggered panic, the Congress and the BJP on Thursday lashed out at the State Government alleging its failure in curbing the spread of the vector-borne diseases.

Addressing a Press conference, Congress leader Debasis Patnaik said, “Like in the case of Covid-19, the State Government has failed to curb the spread of dengue too. Neither the Housing and Urban Development Department nor the Health Department has issued any advisory to tackle the crisis.” “It is surprising that there is no special ward for dengue patients, not even at the premier Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar,” Patnaik said.

The dengue tally in Bhubaneswar has breached the 400-mark so far. Instead of collecting tax, the Urban Development Department should rather work on anti-dengue operations, he said. The BJP also held a Press meet over the dengue crisis and targeted the Government alleging its failure in checking the spread of the diseases.“The measures taken by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to prevent dengue spread are not enough. The situation is very alarming in the S capital city. The Government should wake up from deep slumber and initiate necessary steps,” BJP leader Dillip Mohanty said.

In reaction, Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kisore Das said, “Dengue is not new. All the CDMOs have been asked to take necessary steps to tackle the present situation.” Notably, the dengue situation in Bhubaneswar is assuming menacing proportions. Several localities at Sailashree Vihar and Niladri Vihar are among the worst-hit. The BMC has formed a team to probe the claim of death of a 12-year-old girl due to dengue.
