nThe Gania Unnayan Committee, Nayagarh in association with the District Health Committee organised a district-level event ‘Our girl, our prided’ here on Wednesday.

Gania Unnayan Committee president and social activist Usha Patnaik presiding over the programme expressed concern over the decreasing ratio of girls in the district. There were 851 females compared to 1,000 males in the district.

Nayagarh CDMO Dr Shwetakumar Mahapatra, Dr Suresh Chandra Mishra, Lalita Mishra, Swadesh Mishra and Arun Kumar Mohanty attended as guests.

The speakers mentioned that in 2006 the female infanticide rate in the district was highest in the State and both the Government and non-government organisations took many steps to check it. But it is highly unfortunate that the situation is still alarming.

On the occasion, the speakers and participants took oath to sensitise the public to check female infanticide and minor girl marriage.
