The Youth Congress on Saturday alleged that

millions of people in the country faced difficulties during the Covid

pandemic for shortage of hospital beds, oxygen and specialist facilities,

for which thousands died though no one knows exactly how many.

Youth Congress State president Dr Smruti Ranjan Lenka accused the

Modi Government of hiding the real death statistics. While the World

Health Organsiation (WHO) claims that in India 47 lakh people died due

to Covid, the Central Government says the number of fatalities is only

4.8 lakh.

He demanded that the Government set up an all-party Covid

Commission to bring to the fore the real death toll. Besides, each

deceased’s family should be provided Rs 4 lakh as an interim

compensation.

Lenka said that while thousands of dead bodies were floating in the

Ganges during the pandemic. When people were struggling for life

during the first and second Covid waves, it was the Youth Congress

which supplied oxygen, arranged beds and cremated bodies under the

leadership of its national president Srinivas BV.
