The ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar celebrated its “35th Annual Day” here on Friday. The institute was set up in the year 1987 under Indian Council of
Agricultural Research (ICAR).

Former Director, ICAR-CIFA and former DG, NACA, Bangkok Dr AE Eknath graced the occasion as chief guest. Fisheries as a subject has come a long way and contributions from research institutes like CIFA have been immense. No subject can grow if it is not backed by adequate
research both in frontier areas as well as in applied areas, he told.

Vice-Chancellor, FM University Prof SK Tripathy and Director,
ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore Dr BK Das graced the occasion as special
guest. Dr Tripathy lauded the research efforts of ICAR-CIFA and wished
close collaboration with the institute including students and faculty
exchange for mutual gain. Dr Das stressed on research application
especially among socio-economically backward sections. Poverty and
malnutrition could be reduced to a great extent through promotion of
aquaculture in tribal and far flung areas.

The dignitaries also released 4 booklets on the occasion. Earlier, in
his welcome address, Director, ICAR-CIFA Dr SK Swain highlighted the institute’s role in developing farm-worthy technologies and hand
