The members of the Private Bus and Truck Operators' Association, Bar Association and other organisations have urged the district Collector to exempt vehicles of Balangir district from paying tax at Bhainsapali tollgate.
Toll tax from vehicles at Bhainsaplali tollgate in Balangir-Sonepur road NH57 in Balangir district are now being collected since April 1.In a memorandum submitted to the district Collector on Tuesday evening, they pointed out that Balangir is a part of KBK district and people have less purchasing power.
The Covid-19 pandemic has hit the transport sector business hard and in such a situation ,imposition of toll tax on transporters would affect them adversely, they said.
Moreover ,in neighbouring Bargarh district ,vehicles registered in that district are exempted from toll tax there.
Keeping in view the above facts, vehicles of Balangir district be exempted from paying toll tax at Bhainsapali tollgate, they urged.
