‘Elected representatives’ role undermined in State’

Published on:

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Patnaik on Friday expressed deep resentment over the 5T Secretary’s tour to different districts and said that for this the democratic system has crumbled in the State.

Patnaik said information has been availed that VK Pandian is visiting different districts without the knowledge of the Chief Minister and announcing different schemes in meetings and sanctioning funds. This should be done by elected representatives as per the Constitutional system.  The CM should himself announce if he has entrusted the 5T Secretary with this responsibility.

During the 5T Secretary tour to Baleswar, Congress workers were detained by police which is not good for a democratic country.

Congress Media Cell chairman Ganeswar Behera said in a democracy elected representatives’ role is most important. The decision-making power lies with elected representatives and not with bureaucrats.

Among others, senior leaders Panchanan Kanungo and Nabajyoti Patnaik were present.
