The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist), Odisha State committee held a mass demonstration here on Friday, demanding declaration of Cyclone Fani as a national disaster and payment assistances to affected people at the earliest.
Alleging that relief and restoration works have not been done properly, the SUCI (C) members led by State secretary Dhurjati Das also demanded that a quintal of rice and Rs 20,000 be paid to the affected soon. They also wanted that fees of the students in Fani-affected areas be waived and Pucca houses provided to all people who were living in thatched houses.
A delegation also went to the Governor’s House and the State Secretariat and submitted memorandums addressed to the Governor and the Chief Minister in support of their demands.
Among others, Raghunath Das, Biswabasu Das, Bhikari Pradhan, Surendra Mallick and Purnachandra Behera were present.
