‘Dead woman’s’ treatment sparks row

Published on:

Tension ran high at the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital on Tuesday as a woman was allegedly being treated there even after her death.

The daughter of the deceased alleged that the hospital authorities were doing so in order to suppress the matter of the patient’s death due to ‘medical negligence’.

According to reports, one Arati Ghosh (52) of Brajarajnagar was admitted to the hospital on Friday last due to blood-related ailments. On Tuesday, her blood test was conducted while her family members were not apprised about the report.

Arati’s daughter Susmita alleged that a nurse administered an injection to her in the afternoon, following which the patient’s condition deteriorated. She further alleged that though the woman was to be administered intravenous fluid at 7 pm, it was done at 10 pm after a complaint was made.

Though a doctor declared the woman dead at around 10 pm and the same was mentioned in a report, an oxygen mask was put on her till 11.30 pm, alleged Susmita.

The hospital authorities were yet to comment on the matter.
