Urban Development and Panchayati Raj and Law Minister Pratap Jena released a coffee-table book, “Cuttack-The City of Museums”, here on Friday.
Jena said the book would be of great use to the tourists, scholars, students and general readers.
The millennium city is one among the few cities in the country having as many as nine museums. The museums are of different categories and they showcase history, heritage and beauty of the city. It has hundreds of photographs.
The museums are Odisha Maritime Museum, Odisha High Court Museum, Odisha Painting Museum, Madhusudan Museum, Netaji Birth Place Museum, Swaraj Ashram, Anand Bhawan Museum and Learning Centre and Skill Museum.
Each Museum is unique in its own and some are even only one-of-its- kind in the country. Cuttack is the second largest city in the country after Ujjain.
Author Raja Parija said that preserving history of the city is important for posterity and often it is preserved in the form of museums, publications and in the current digital era as audio visuals.
The book describes glorious journey of Museum Movement in the country since 1814 and especially in Odisha since 1904
Parija, a senior administrative officer, has love for the city and its rich heritage.
“The Silver Splendor of Millennium City” and the “Netaji Was Born Here” are other two books written by him.
