‘Country facing Constitutional crisis’

Published on:

All is not well in the country. Those who are ruling after getting people’s mandate are misruling it rather. In such a situation, we, the people of the country, have to be careful and save our own Constitution,” said speakers at Sambalpur and Jharsuguda who are moving all over the country on a ‘Sambidhan Samman Yatra.’

The yatra has kicked off on October 2 on Gandhi Jayanti this year from Dandi in Gujarat in order to create awareness among the citizens of the country to save the Constitution as well as constitutional rights of the people.

The speakers said that the country is passing through a critical juncture. Whether democracy will survive or not is a question mark now. Undemocratic system rules the roost by a democratically elected Government.

Even efforts are being made to divide people in the name of caste, creed and religion. Atrocities on minority, SCs and STs are in the rising graph. People are feeling insecure everywhere. Efforts are on to squeeze voice of those who are raising voice against such anomalies. Influential people are looting the natural resources of the country without slightest of the problem to face. Rather, they are being encouraged in such practices. Hence, it is time for all of us to be alert and work jointly to protect secure Constitutional rights of the citizens, said the speakers. A group comprising people from different States was here on Tuesday evening to sensitize people on the crucial issue.  The members of the Sambalpur Jilla Krushak Samanway Samity led by Langaraj took an active part in organizing the meeting with warm welcome to the members at the entrance of the city.

“Gujarat is projected as the ‘development model’ by both the State end Central Governments. But the reality is that, SC or ST people apart, the general category people have now demanded reservation there for their very survival,” the speakers said further. “The recommendations of the Swaminathan Committee are ignored by the present Government. Farmers are suffering out of poverty all over the country. Hence, it is right time that we have to become aware of the ongoing wrongdoings in the country and raise voice against it,” they added.

The main attraction of the yatra, Medha Patkar who was to address the gathering here couldn’t come due to her personal problem. But in her absence, activist Prafulla Samantara, Rajendra Rabi, Rohit Singh, Bhupinder Singh Rawat and office bearers of the Krushak Surakshya Samanwaya Samity addressed the people.
