‘Complete rethinking of edu system needed’

The success of the fourth industrial revolution, happening much faster than the earlier transformations, depended on “how we are able to adapt our education system to these changes”, said former President of the Republic of Mauritius Dr Rajkishwur Purryag at the diamond jubilee national convention of the Indian Institute of Industrial Engineering (IIIE), which began in SOA University here on Thursday.

Dr Purryag said the success or failure of the fourth industrial revolution would greatly depend on to what extent it is inclusive as the application of technology is poised to dominate every aspect of our lives.

On the occasion, an international conference on the ‘Role of Industrial Engineering in Industry 4.0 Paradigm’ was also held in which experts from academia, research organisations and industry from across the globe attended, being held in collaboration with SOA.  “The question is what type of education we must aim at to make the fourth industrial revolution relevant for each one of us, not just a few”, he said adding besides education, the other areas of concern would be providing opportunities for all and the centrality of human beings in this revolution.

University of Cincinnati, USA distinguished professor and renowned Industry 4.0 expert Prof Jay Lee also spoke. Among others, IIIE Odisha chapter president Prof RP Mohanty was present. A special postal cover was also released Chief Post Master General, Odisha Circle Dr SK Kamilla to mark the occasion.
