The All Indian Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO), Odisha unit, on Saturday strongly demanded the State Government to do away with the decision to close 966 primary schools where the student strength is less than 10 in the current academic session.

The association holding demonstration before the State Assembly here on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the School and Mass Minister regarding the matter.

The AIDSO alleged that due to the callous attitude of the State Government the education in the Government schools is in a shambles. AIDSO State president Ganesh Tripathy said that the Government without taking steps to solve different problems in the schools like lack of teachers, infrastructure and others, took the decision to close as many as 966 schools, which is anti-people.

Among others, AIDSO secretary Subash Nayak, VP Somnath Behera, Siddharth Rath, Jayant Mohanty, Rekha Dandapat, Bhagyarabi Das, Sibani Mishra, Sasmita Sahu, Prabhati Mallick, Swastisangita Dalei and Sabtarsini Roula were present.
