‘Check rise in prices of essential commodities’

Samajwadi Party (SP) Odisha State Committee president Rabindra Nath Behera on Tuesday wrote to Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy requesting him to take early steps to check the rising prices of essential commodities like vegetables, onion, potato, rice and dal.

In the letter, Behera has mentioned that price of essential commodities has become all time high after unseasonal rains.

Mentioning that a cyclonic storm forecast in the Bay of Bengal has panicked people of the State and they have gone for panic-buying, he said the unscrupulous traders and hoarders, taking advantage of the prediction, are exploiting common people by hiking the price of essential commodities.

“The State Government should take immediate steps to stop black marketing and hoarding and ensure supply of vegetables and other essential products at right prices to the consumer,” urged Behera.

Behera also requested the Chief Secretary to immediately call a high-level meeting of the Food and Civil Supply officials, traders and other stakeholders to check price rise and direct the traders to display the price list of commodities at their counters.

The Market Intelligent department should be directed to monitor the market for which hoarders and unscrupulous traders do not get the opportunity of exploiting the consumers, he further requested.
