‘Bungling of funds in State Govt ‘rare’ in nature’

The BJP on Thursday accused the State Government of having resorted to large scale financial bungling as has been revealed through the latest report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.

In a Press conference, BJP State vice-president Bhrugu Buxipatra alleged that large scale financial irregularities done in various Government departments were ‘rare’ in India. Because of lack of planning, violation of existing laws and guidelines and by spending more than the budgetary allocation, the State Government lost revenue of Rs 1,610 crore, he slammed. He said that by violating norms, the State Government has diverted Rs 225.84 crore CAMPA fund for other purposes. The Government has also failed to submit Utilisation Certificate (UC) of Rs 36,194 crore to the Central Government.

Large scale financial bungling has been reported in many departments and projects with patronage from the Government officials and support from the contractors, Buxipatra said. The BJP leader said the recent CAG report is based on three of 12 economically important State Government departments such as the Forest and Environment, PWD and Water Resources.

Buxipatra alleged that from 1984 up to 2020, total 3,473 complaints have not been solved and especially during the last 22 years, 3,232 issues were not settled. He questioned why 1,328 cases of complaints have not been responded despite repeated strictures from the CAG.
