The breast cancer is the most commonly-diagnosed cancer in India and across world, said oncologist Dr Sourav Kumar Mishra addressing a Press meet here on Friday.

Dr Mishra said that all major cancer society recommend annual screening mammography in females after the age of 40 years and screening MRI of the breasts in high risk population such as strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer.

However with advancements in cancer research, the breast cancer armamentarium now includes targeted therapy, immunotherapy, hormonal therapy and specialised radiotherapy techniques, he added.

“Unlike chemotherapy, which is difficult to tolerate and with limited responses, precision medicines are pretty well tolerated with remarkable responses. We now have the ability to target cancer genetics,” Dr Mishra further said.
