The Collective Initiation for Social Solidarity (CISS), a reputed NGO, functioning since long in the Dhenkanal district for welfare, safety and preservation of wild animals, has alleged that the killing of the seven elephants which were electrocuted during the Laxmi Puja festival in Dhenkanal district was due to sheer negligence of the State Government. Director of CISS Bijoy Kumar Das has alleged that the Chief Minister had been several times apprised through media and also through personal petitions to take safety measures for the wild animals. Citing newspaper cuttings, he alleged that though the Government was cautioned about the impending danger, it remained callous. Even though it is too late yet, the NGO suggested for insulating the 11-KV lines and hand them at least 15feet high in forest areas.
