‘BJD took Rs 100-cr fund from crop insurance firms’

Published on:

The BJP on Friday alleged that the ruling BJD has taken election fund of Rs 100 crore during the last panchayat and ULB elections from the insurance companies enrolled for Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and therefore was protecting the interest of companies at the cost of the farmers.

BJP State Kisan Morcha president MLA Pradip Purohit accused that when the farmers who insured their crops by the empanelled companies under PMFBY are facing a crisis of not getting compensation for crop loss, the insurance companies are turning a blind eye.

He alleged that the so-called joint crop cutting report done by Agriculture, Revenue, Statistics departments besides insurance companies is not made public. Based on the report, farmers should get compensation as per their premium deposits, said Purohit. Purohit further informed that the State Government had empanelled AIC of India Ltd, HDFC ERGO Ltd and Reliance GIC Ltd for PMFBY registration for the year 2020-21, but they are not paying compensation money to the farmers.

He further added that even in the current year’s flood when the farmers have suffered extensive loss of crops, they would face difficulties to get compensation as the entire process has become a mess.
