The National Council for Teachers Education (NCET) has revoked the approval to 14 Government Teacher Training Colleges in Odisha from the beginning of 2020 due to the gross negligence of the State Government.
This has led to the stopping of admissions in these institutions for the current year. The NCET took the decision citing inadequate faculties and lack of infrastructure in these colleges.
If teachers are not appointed in these colleges immediately and the admission process is not started soon, a mass agitation would be held across the State, said the All India Save Education Committee, Odisha at a Press meet here on Tuesday. There are 1650 B Ed , 250 M Ed and 36 M Phil seats in the 14 colleges which have been closed. The SCERT and Directorate of Teachers Education are there to run these B Ed colleges efficiently. But despite these organisations presence, these colleges were closed. This has led to deep resentment among the education lovers of the State, the committee said.
Hundreds of teachers posts are vacant in the State. The educated youth of the State are forced to go to other States for B Ed courses. If this situation is not kept in mind and steps are not taken immediately , a massive agitation would be organised , warned committee president Birendra Nayak.
