Although the Government often seems to be quite satisfied with the healthcare facilities that are offered to the corona victims during these troubled times, the health services are not up to mark in the local Covid Hospital here.
The much-publicised Baripada Covid Hospital, which has been set up at Bankisole on the outskirts of the town, takes care of asymptomatic Corona patients from all over Mayurbhanj. But the funny and fascinating fact is that the hospital presently offers only eating and resting, not treating or testing facilities, the patients, who have an experience of this hospital, alleged.
According to the corona patients, staying in the hospital is like a 10-day-long jail term, where only “Complex forte with Vitamin-C capsules” are given to the patients and nothing else.
No other medical treatment is offered there. The doctor hardly visits them. If at all, he hardly cares to talk to the patients. “When this is the situation, we could have been better off at home”, they pointed out.
“We are given raw treatment by the nurses and are even unnecessarily asked to keep our doors and windows shut all the time, which makes us feel suffocated,” one Giridhari Mohanta of Rairangpur, who was kept in the hospital, resented.
Another inmate Indrajit Bindhani of Gorumahisani and Chandrasekhar Tudu of Tiring complained about several other things like denial of warm water, TV viewing facility etc.
BJP leader Chhotelal Mohanta, who is now undergoing treatment there, said, “Healthcare workers don’t behave properly here. Have we come here only to eat?"
